Birthdays and BarbiesMy Mom offered to watch the boys for us while we went down to South Padre for a few days before Nate started medical school. We hit a few bumps in the road like oil all over the beach from an oil spill in Mexico and I got sea sick on our deep sea fishing trip. I will definitely be taking some drugs next time! We still had fun just being together, eating good food, and relaxing without the kids. I actually ready a book for fun! We went to Schlitterbahn on the way home too.

We could only keep two fish each and Nate let me catch his two, since he already had his big fishing trip in Alaska. I felt pretty good after I threw up about 6 times and these fish put up a good fight. We now have 28 lbs. of red snapper in our freezer. I am looking forward to cooking some of it this weekend.

Nate turned 30 the first day of medical school and the I took the Beams up on their offer to host a little surprise party. He told me later he heard me on the phone in the bathroom, so I guess it wasn't a total surprise. I gave him a cane that said, "If you tease me about my age I will beat you with this cane!"

Look at all the smoke! That is a lot of candles!!!!

The dean of the medical school had a bar-b-que for all the medical school students and alumni. It was fun to meet a few of his classmates and Ryan had fun playing games put on by the M2's (second year students).

Our future surgeon....look at the concentration on his face.

My birthday fell on the same day as Nate's white coat ceremony, but he still helped Ryan make Mommy blueberry pancakes for breakfast. Isn't that a beautiful back splash? We had silestone counter tops put in a few months ago and will hopefully get the back splash done over the Christmas break.

Nate getting his short white coat...he is officially a Doctor in Training!

We took the kids to the pool that afternoon

and got to go to dinner with Nate's family that night to celebrate my birthday and Nona and Grandpa's anniversary.

My friends, Leslie and Lisa, took me out to dinner on Monday night and I chose Texas Roadhouse. It didn't even cross my mind that they would tell the waitress it was my birthday. I won't be that dumb again. Leslie took this pic with her phone. They had me flap two to go boxes like a bird and bite on two cone water cups (my beak) while sitting on a saddle. Good times!
Here is where the Barbie part comes in. I forgot to put this in the last post. There were a few Barbie dolls at the ranch and the day we left Ryan asked me, "Mom, does Barbie have owies?" (that is our word for boobs because they hurt when I got home form the hospital with Jackson). I also discovered that Ryan has a girlfriend at the gym named Shelby. They play together the entire time and hug each other when they leave. Today he was upset that she wasn't there when I dropped him off. I am so not ready for this!
It looks like you guys have been having a ton of fun! Happy Birthday! I'm excited to have someone else in the family to compare notes with on med school!
